FAMILIA VALERA MIRANDA Cuba |
The
genetic and cultural mixing whose Familia Valera Miranda is heiress (Spain, the Canaries, Africa, the Caribbean) makes them a typical family of Oriente, eastern Cuba: their music echoes the country. |

Several
generations of musicians follow one another in the family, where the music is
perceived more like an indissociable activity of the everyday life than in terms of
career. The great-grandfather of Felix (current leader of the band), was decorated during the independence wars and gained there his stripes of colonel, while being respected for his talents of poet and popular singer until the seizeable age of 125 ; as for the paternal grandmother, she excelled, one says, in the sonero-treseros secret songs until her death at the age of 114. Let us add to these ancestors worthy of a Garcia Marquez novel, a handle of musician uncles, a singer mother, and we have with Felix Valera Miranda and his family a group of traditional son and bolero, for which music is a natural activity, as easy and as essential as breathing. |
