In
1988, the talented flutist José Luis Cortés leaves Irakere to form his own group, NG La Banda. At once, this "new generation" (NG...) orchestra coast along modernity, imposing its furious pace salsa carried by a powerful and ultra-effective rhythmic (thanks, amongst other things, to the contribution of the drums), and a brass section with exceptional riffs. |
|
For it is the quality of the brass and their arrangements which is
immediately remarkable with NG La Banda . Even if they are a
little weak in solo, the brass (two trumpets, an alto sax, a tenor sax) emerge as a
riff-commando with precise attacks, marked by a melodic and rhythmic originality which
points out Earth Wind & Fire. The musical quality of José Luis " El Tosco " Cortés, who reigns without sharing on his mob, follows the fine line between jazz and well thought variety, even if the option generates sometimes some superfluous commercial skids for a group of this value. Endowed with an undeniable stage presence, the musicians of NG La Banda carry out their concerts with brilliance, and at times, get to to really set the room on fire... It is with these assets that the band is posed as a serious rival to Los Van Van, and that this "new generation" orchestra is rightly one of the French favorite. |
