Among the rising generation of Cuban singers, Paulito F.G., kind of missing link between Charanga Habanera and Issac Delgado, holds a distinction place in the heart of the Cuban chicas. |
PAULITO F.G. Cuba |
Beginning as lead singer with Adalberto Alvarez y su Son and with Dan Den,
Pablo Fernández Gallo, alias Paulito, creates his own band -
Su Elite - in 1992. His musicians, all from the most
prestigious cuban music schools, are up to the tonic and exciting
salsa that Paulito endorsed. Even if he never really takes his distance from traditional salsa, the music of Paulito, with electric instruments and drums, is sometimes tinged with funk and rap, and flirts with a tempting and well made variety. Japan does not take one for the other, and welcomes him some time later, over there, they are in raptures over his music, then Paulito flies away to Europe (Spain, the Canaries, Finland, France), where his success is confirmed. Fortified by his fame he returns to Cuba, where his hit Que vas a decir ahora (in El Bueno soy yo, a record on which producer Jerry Masucci prints his mark) remains on the Cuban top charts for 9 weeks, and brings in to him the title of the most popular Cuban artist for 1995. The quality of his musicians, the stage performance and the singing of Paulito -who composes most of his songs- as well as the off-hand erotism he emanates drive the Latin sisters crazy and give to his concerts an unquestionable charm, provided that the audience adopts the same tone. Paulito F.G. still has to control his success, and, in his desire to please, to avoid the trap of easy variety, which ruined more than one promising artist. |
